Sigh. As much as I’d like it if sex didn’t sell, and we lived instead in a world where a clever headline, beautiful copy and tasteful art was what drew people to buy products, I have to admit that ever since they started illustrating the Grecian urns to sell more olive oil, sex has been a big part of the marketing mix.

But really, has it become too much? Has it come down to this?

sex is not the first ploy used by advertisers

Have you noticed the recent trend of advertising to use humour?

In fact, there are several ploys that publicity men and advertisers employed to draw the attention of the customers on their ads. Mostly they use sex to sell and show sexy women for all products. Now the tendency is to use humour especially to convince young people but not only. Indeed if an ad make you laugh you remembered it more easily and you have a good image of the firm which shows its product.

OMFG — Sexy “Gossip Girl” Promos
You may have seen one of the recent network promos for CW’s “Gossip Girl.” We did; me and my three-year-old son. The promos were hyping interest in “Gossip Girl” newest show since the writer’s strike. It premiered Monday, April 21.

The promo aired about 3 pm on Oxygen network. It definitely caught our attention. As Brian Sternberg of Advertising Age noted, the promo “feature[s] Serena, Nate and other characters from the program locked in passionate embraces, with the text message “OMFG” superimposed on top.” Couple those passionate embraces with nudity and a high degree of sexual tension to complete the picture.
